CRYSTALENS™

Crystalens™ is an advanced focusing implantable lens that can help you see clearly far away, at arms length, and up close, without being dependent on glasses or contact lenses.

Enjoying life to the fullest means being able to see your surroundings. That requires constantly changing focus to see  near, far and everything in between. The process of changing the focus distance is called accommodation. As we grow older, our ability to accommodate begins to diminish as the normally clear and flexible lens in your eyes becomes rigid. Over time, your lens becomes cloudy. When the lens becomes cloudy it is called a cataract. Because of this we need reading glasses in our mid 40's, later we need bifocals, and eventually we may need cataract surgery to see well.

The Crystalens™  is an accommodating intraocular lens which is used to replace the natural lens when it is removed during cataract surgery. The Crystalens™ is able to restore your eye's natural focusing ability by using a lens design that mimics the way the natural lens flexes and focuses. A Crystalens™ is implanted with  the same techniques used in modern cataract surgery. Surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and you can resume your normal work and recreational activities within a few days. Since you now have a choice of what lens implant you will choose for your surgery you need to learn about your options so you can make an informed decision.

Please use this website to learn about your options.  Any cataract surgery, including the Crystalens procedure involves surgical risks.  The results of surgery can not be guaranteed.  A full discussion of the risks of surgery with Dr. Segal will enable you to make an informed decision.
